LUXURY WITH A TRULY PERSONAL SERVICE | KAY’S FINE JEWELRY, CAYMAN ISLANDS

Kay’s Fine Jewelry is a family-owned and operated Jewellery store with a presence in six Caribbean Islands. Co-founded by brothers Dan and Raj Chugani in 1989 to honour their parents, Kay’s Fine Jewelry is built on a foundation of trust and integrity that prides itself on its family spirit and personal service. REAL LIFE talked to Monty Ahuja, store sales manager in Cayman, about his role and what makes this jewellery store unique.

RL: What attracted you to working in the jewellery industry?

MA: I love meeting and interacting with people. When customers come to buy jewellery, I have the privilege of sharing in their celebration and being a part of that experience. Working in Cayman, I get to meet people from all over the world.

RL: Do you have any qualifications in gemmology?

MA: I hold an Applied Jewellery Professional certification from the Gemological Institute of America. GIA is one of the largest global gemstone certification organisations and is also a leader in knowledge, standards and education in gems and jewellery.
All the senior members of my team are GIA certified, giving customers the reassurance that they are receiving accurate, knowledgeable advice from trained professionals.

RL: What about the gemstones Kay’s Fine Jewellery sells? How do customers know they are authentic?

MA: All the diamonds and coloured stones we sell are certified, either by GIA or by UGL. Both organisations are experts in grading and evaluating gemstones and jewellery, so anything you buy from KFJ comes with a certificate of authenticity. Our company policy is to only sell natural diamonds. You will not find any lab-grown or synthetic gemstones here.

RL: What are some products Kay’s Fine Jewelry offers that other jewellery stores on island do not?

MA: In terms of product lines, the Flexi Bangle – a flexible diamond bangle available in white, yellow or rose gold – is available exclusively at KFJ, as is our Waterfall Collection, which includes rings, necklaces, earrings, and more.
We also have the largest selection of natural Alexandrite stones on the island. Natural Alexandrite comes from Brazil and is one of the rarest and most expensive gemstones
in the world. This remarkable stone changes colour, appearing green in sunlight and red in incandescent light, so it changes from day to night.

RL: Does Kay’s Fine Jewelry design and manufacture their own jewellery?

MA: Yes, indeed, we create all the designs that are unique to our stores we have
several of our own manufacturing facilities. This means there is no middleman, so our
prices are extremely competitive, even on pieces that are not our own designs.
We can also create custom jewellery designs for clients who have a specific
stone, metal and design in mind.

RL: What other unique services does Kay’s Fine Jewellery offer?

MA: It is our customer service that really differentiates us. Since we are a family-owned company, we offer a truly personal service, so should a customer have a query or complaint, for instance, they know they can call and speak directly with a member of staff. Our customers will never be left waiting.

RL: What is the last piece of advice you gave a customer?

MA: Jewellery is an investment that can be passed on to your loved ones and children. Even modest pieces of jewellery have sentimental value, and that alone is a reason to keep them as family heirlooms. Larger stones can also be a wise financial investment as they appreciate over time.
