Unblemished beaches, stunning turquoise waters and perpetual sunshine. The Bahamas captivate at every turn. Couple the isles’ natural beauty with champion golf courses, full-service marinas for superyachts, private air strips, top-notch restaurants, five-star spas and opulent gated communities, and it is easy to see why these 700 islands have found such favour. What is more, given the country’s close proximity to the US, ease of international travel, a stable democracy since 1729 and a reasonable ten percent property Stamp Tax rate, it is little wonder that everyone, especially the discerning and well-heeled, want a slice of this tropical heaven.
And for those desiring to call The Bahamas home, there is only one place to go: H.G. Christie, the oldest and largest real estate firm in the country; also the exclusive affiliates of Christie’s International Real Estate of the renowned Christie’s Auction House.
Sir Harold Christie, promoter of the Bahama Islands.
Established by Sir Harold Christie in 1922, the company has represented the very best real estate offerings on island since inception. A trailblazer and visionary, Sir Harold and his brother, Frank, spearheaded development of the islands with leading high-end communities such as Lyford Cay, Windermere Island and Great Harbour Cay, as well as key infrastructure projects like the creation of Bahamas Airways to improve transport links. Such efforts earned Harold a Knighthood in 1964.

In the 1970s, Peter Christie, nephew and principal real estate attorney for the company, inherited the helm. Today he continues to reside as President sharing his unsurpassed depth of knowledge and insight alongside his son, John.
Possessing the legendary ‘Christie trailblazing spirit’, John has steered the company from one success to another as Vice President, Managing Director and highly sought after agent for clients of distinction.

However, the path to real estate was not a direct path for John. A talented musician, he spent several years touring northeast America with his band before yielding to his realtor lineage and innate strengths.
“My competitive nature in sports developed into a strong drive to succeed. My early musical success and interaction with fans honed my people skills and intuitive ability to read individuals. These have proved invaluable assets to my real estate career,” he says with professional reflection.

Choosing love and family, John joined the firm in the early 1990s. In keeping with the ‘progressive Christie nature’, he digitised the office and took the company online in 1995, a time when the Internet was limited to early-adopters. The first local firm on the web, H.G. Christie has won accolades and awards for the site’s innovative and interactive abilities.
Continuing to lead the way, they recently launched The Bahamas’ first Responsive Design website in the industry and remain the country’s provider of the largest real estate portfolio.
Shrewd, revolutionary moves are characteristic of John’s style. Combining keen analysis with thoughtful insight, he continues to keep H.G. Christie at the cutting-edge of innovation and customer service. Recent developments include: providing in-house video production and professional photography services, instituting the HGCTV online channel, expanding its sales team and services and, most exciting, a new second office at the western end of New Providence in the Old Fort Bay Town Centre, which is scheduled to open this October.

But it is not just business flair that keeps discerning clients returning, it is a genuine care for the people being served, a company-wide enthusiasm entrenched in local knowledge and an honest love of The Bahamas which drives Harold Christie’s legacy forward. With these core values and commitments it is no wonder that H.G. Christie is known as “The Trusted Authority in Bahamas Real Estate.”
