Cayman's first truly 'green' Office Building Designed by Local Architect Firm, Design Cayman
Committed to designing buildings that are socially, economically and environmentally responsible, Design Cayman has carved out a niche as the Cayman Islands' leader in sustainable architecture with their creative and innovative team led by Cindy O’Hara, Managing Director, and Brian MacDonald, Managing Principle. Currently underway is the 230,000 square foot Government Office Administration Building (GOAP), which was designed by O'Hara and is Cayman’s first authentically ‘green’ office building. One of the largest capital projects to date, GOAP will house 34 Government agencies and has been designed to include under-floor air conditioning that uses geothermal technology, centrally controlled interior lighting, external and internal LED light fittings and a roof space designed for the future installation of photo-voltaic (‘PV’) panels to generate solar power. These 'green' initiatives go hand-in-hand with the hurricane and earthquake resistant construction, 14-foot above sea level elevation and reinforced concrete.
