Logwood Given a New Lease of Life
The Logwood tree, which was once at the heart of the Cayman Islands' economy, has found a new lease of life and is being turned into eco-friendly, functional artwork by Cayman Logwood Products. The wood from fallen trees is now being harvested on a small-scale basis to fashion into home décor pieces, which are symbolic of Cayman's heritage. The wood is hand selected, gathered, dried, and turned with the help of local craftsmen. "The unique colour and shape of logwood presented itself wonderfully as a hand crafted art piece," said Vanessa Polack, owner of Cayman Logwood Products. All genuine Cayman Logwood products are given a specific number along with the signature trademark logo on each piece.
You can find Cayman Logwood pieces at retail locations island-wide including Pure Art, The Turtle Farm, The Ritz-Carlton, Grand Cayman gift shop and Jacques Scott (airport shop).
