Five Beaches and Two Marinas Awarded Blue Flag Status
U.S. Virgin Islands
The USVI Hotel & Tourism Association and the VI Conservation Society have announced that five beaches and two marinas have been awarded the prestigious Blue Flag status by the Foundation for Environmental Education. The five beaches are: on St. Thomas - Emerald Beach, Great Bay; Trunk Bay and Cinnamon Bay on St. John; and Pelican Cove on St. Croix. Two marinas also received certification: on St. Thomas - Crown Bay Marina and on St. Croix - Green Cay Marina.
"By meeting Blue Flag standards we are being respectful of island residents, visitors and the environment," said Adrian Davis, HTA Environmental Committee chairperson. "It means our beaches and marina facilities are safe and clean, and the marine resources are preserved." In addition, a Blue Flag Ambassador Membership programme for boats will be launched which will offer owners who care about the marine environment the opportunity to showcase their commitment to marine conservation.
